The Midlands Aortic Renal Injury (MARI) Study was a national prospective cohort study investigating the peri-operative impact of aortic intervention on renal function.
Patients undergoing any form of open or endovascular intervention were eligible to take part. A series of clinical and biochemical parameters were recorded prospectively by the VERN researchers and the research nurses attached to the project.
The study was supported by the NIHR Clinical Research Network and included patients from 11 vascular centres across the UK. Financial support was given by the NIHR Leicester Biomedical Research Centre. The study was set up by the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire RD&I which also provided the necessary infrastructure to recruit and follow-up the participants nationally.
